Mycoplasma is a common contaminant of cell cultures and bio-pharmaceutical production. Research shows that approximately 30 to 85% of cell cultures are infected with mycoplasma. Mycoplasma contamination is likely to negatively impact cell growth, synthesis of nucleic acids, and protein expression.

Signs of mycoplasma contamination include:
– Change in cell morphology
– Change in growth pattern
– Decrease in cell activity
– Poor transfection
– Observation of black particles in culture media
– Observation of black holes at cell surface

The Myco-X™ Mycoplasma PCR Detection Kit offers an all-in-one solution to mycoplasma testing.  48 pre-aliquoted PCR reactions are provided in a supermix containing a Hot-Start Taq Polymerase, dNTPs, mycoplasma primers, internal control primers and 8-MOP.  The kit also includes control DNA and DNase/RNase free DI water.  All that’s needed for testing is template DNA.  Our protocol may be completed in under 3 hours with sensitivity down to 10 CFU/mL.
